The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the Centre and the State to file a status report on a petition that sought a direction to the governments to take immediate steps for the release of 68 fishermen who have been remanded in Sri Lanka in December.
A total of 43 fishermen were taken into custody by the Sri Lankan Navy on December 18. On December 19, 12 fishermen were taken into custody and 13 more fishermen were taken into custody on December 20.
