The UP government also said that "proxy litigation" were being pursued to protect those who encroached on public land.
Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind had filed a plea in the Supreme Court on June 13 after the civil administration in Prayagraj, Kanpur and Saharanpur razed houses of accused involved in violent protests against remarks on Prophet Muhammad by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.
The plea sought directions from the UP government that no action be taken in Kanpur district against the residential or commercial property of any accused in any criminal proceedings as an extra-legal punitive measure.
The UP government said the Saharanpur demolitions mentioned in the plea were 'lawful". It denied the allegation that a minor boy had been arrested while protesting the demolition.
