The prices of petrol and diesel have maintained stability on Monday, March 14, 2022, even as global crude oil soared in the international market amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The oil marketing companies have not increased fuel prices in the country since November 2021. However, the hostilities between Russia and Ukraine is expected to keep global prices high and experts opine that fuel rates in India may rise soon.
On Friday, Brent crude futures rose $3.34 and settled at $112.67 a barrel after hitting a session low of $107.13. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 3.1 per cent and settled at $109.33 a barrel, Reuters reported.
India's domestic prices of petrol and diesel may go up by Rs 15 to Rs 22 per litre, as per experts.
The Central government slashed the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10, respectively, on the eve of Diwali last year, and since then, fuel rates are stable.
In Delhi, petrol is retailing at Rs 95.41 per litre and diesel costs Rs 86.67 per litre. In December last, the Delhi government announced a VAT cut by Rs 8 per litre, which reduced prices.
In India's financial capital, Mumbai, a November 4 cut reduced the price of petrol to Rs 109.98. Diesel costs Rs 94.14 per litre in the city at present.
