The prices of petrol and diesel remained static across the country on Sunday, November 7, 2021, after the government slashed the excise duty on fuel to bring down the rates from all-time highs. The state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) have not hiked the prices of petrol and diesel after taxes levied on fuel were slashed by the Centre and some states on Diwali. After the excise rates were cut, at least 23 states and Union Territories also announced a cut in VAT rates on petrol and diesel, giving a big relief to consumers.
According to Indian Oil Corporation, the country's largest fuel retailer, in the national capital, petrol is retailing at Rs 103.97 per litre and diesel is available at Rs 86.67 per litre. The rate of petrol stands at Rs 109.98 in Mumbai and diesel costs Rs 94.14 per litre. The prices of petrol and diesel are the highest in India's financial hub, Mumbai, among all the four metro cities.
