There was no change in the prices of petrol and diesel across major Indian cities on Monday, February 28. Check the latest city-wise rates here.
The Indian oil companies have not made any change in the prices of petrol and diesel on February 28. The prices of petrol and diesel in the national market have been stable since November 2021 amidst the volatility in international crude oil prices. Experts estimate that fuel rates can become expensive only after the ongoing assembly elections in five states.
The Central government slashed the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10, respectively, on the eve of Diwali last year, and since then, fuel rates are stable.
As per an update by the state-run Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), the price of a litre of petrol in Delhi was recorded at Rs 95.41 whereas the diesel price was Rs 86.67 per litre.
In India's financial capital, Mumbai, a November 4 cut reduced the price of petrol to Rs 109.98. Diesel costs Rs 94.14 per litre in the city at present.
In Kolkata, the prices of petrol and diesel have remained unchanged at Rs 104.67 and Rs 89.79, respectively. Petrol and diesel prices stood at Rs 101.40 per litre and Rs 91.43 per litre in Chennai.
The prices of petrol and diesel vary from state to state and also in cities, depending on the incidence of local taxes like a value-added tax (VAT) and freight charges. As per the reports, Rajasthan levies the highest VAT in the country, followed by Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
