Petrol and diesel prices were kept unchanged in the domestic market on February 5, 2022. Check the rates in your city here.
Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged for over 90 days in a row in the domestic market on Saturday, February 5.
This is the longest period when the prices have remained unchanged, ever since the daily revision of prices began in June 2017.
In Delhi, petrol was retailing at Rs 95.41 per litre and the cost of diesel was Rs 86.67 per litre. Similarly, in Mumbai, while petrol rates were Rs 109.98, diesel was trading at Rs 94.14 per litre.
In Bengaluru, petrol was retailing at Rs 100.58, whereas diesel stood at Rs 85.81 per litre. At the same time, the price of a litre of petrol in Chennai was Rs 101.40, while the price of diesel was Rs 91.43 per litre.
In Kolkata, petrol and diesel prices remained at Rs 104.67 and Rs 89.79 per litre respectively.
The Centre had, on the eve of Diwali, announced an excise duty cut on fuels resulting in a sharp decrease in petrol and diesel prices across the country. The government had cut the price of petrol by Rs 5 and that of diesel by Rs 10.
Following this decision, several states, mostly ruled by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and allies have also cut the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel prices.
