Collector G.S. Sameeran on Tuesday gave away customised scooters to persons with spinal cord injuries.
A release from the district administration said Mr. Sameeran gave away 18 customised scooters worth ₹ 99,777 each to as many beneficiaries at an event organised by the District Differently Abled Rehabilitation Office at the Collectorate.
Differently Abled Rehabilitation Officer G. Vasanth Ram Kumar said the vehicles had additional support for the beneficiaries to sit and ride the vehicles comfortably. The riders could tilt the customised seat to suit their convenience. They could also carry wheel chairs on the vehicles.
This was a part of the various schemes and support that the State Government gave to differently abled persons, the release said.
The Collector also gave away smart phones worth ₹ 12,999 each to 17 persons with hearing impairment, battery-powered wheel chair, national identity cards, monthly maintenance assistance, orders for subsidy-linked bank loan among other things to beneficiaries.
Mr. Kumar said the district administration would help the beneficiaries register the vehicles as well.
