Pensioners stage demo

All Workers' Union protests lack of transparency and delayed pensions by EPFO, accusing government of favoring corporations over pensioners.
Members of All Workers’ Union staged a demonstration in front of Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation office here on Tuesday.
The protesters said the Union Government, which was waiving hefty loans to Corporate firms, was claiming that it did not have funds for giving increased pension to 80 lakh-odd pensioners across the country even though it had collected money from the EPFO members for pension. The government was hiding the amount to the tune of over ₹ 1 lakh crore in the EPFO members’ old accounts when they switched over to new companies.
Instead of giving pension to the members and settling the disputes amicably, the EPFO was filing cases in the courts and dragging it for several years with the objective of frustrating the members. There was no transparency in calculating the increased pension as no clear formula had been finalised by the government, the protesters said.
