A retired teacher at a Kolkata school committed suicide after his pension was put on hold for three years.
The body of former headmaster of Kolkata’s Hare school was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room at his residence in West Bengal’s East Burdwan district. The man has been identified as Sunil Kumar Das, 63.
According to the family members, Das was suffering from depression as he had not received pension for three years since he retired.
“He was worried about how he would run the house if this continued. He visited Bikash Bhavan (higher education department office) several times but to no avail,” said one of the family members.
Das received the Shiksha Ratna Award from CM Mamata Banerjee on September 5, 2019.
A case of unusual death has been registered at Memari police station in East Burdwan district and the police have started the investigation.
