IPL 2022, PBKS vs RR: Captain Sanju Samson said Yashasvi Jaiswal had been working hard at the nets and that he wasn't surprised when the young opener shone on his return to the team in their win over Punjab Kings on Saturday.
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson said he is delighted for young Yashasvi Jaiswal who hit a match-winning 68 on his return to the side in their crunch IPL 2022 contest against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, May 7.
Sanju Samson revealed that Jaiswal had been working hard at the nets as he was warming the benches for more than a month. Jaiswal, the U19 World Cup hero from 2022, played the first 3 matches for KKR but he was dropped.
Jaiswal looked a different beast on his return to the side as he took apart the Punjab Kings bowlers in their chase of 190.
Jaiswal hit a career-best 68 as Rajasthan Royals well and truly remained in the hunt for a play-off berth after beating Punjab Kings by six wickets, successfully chasing down 190.
Drafted in place of Karun Nair, the 20-year-old showed superb game awareness and picked the gaps at ease in a 41-ball 68-run knock (9x4, 2x6) to brilliantly set it up for the Rajasthan Royals in their tall 190-run chase which was completed with two balls to spare at the Wankhede stadium.
"We all knew he was due for a good innings. He spent some quality time training and lots of hours in the nets, we all knew that he is due for runs so very happy for him. I wanted to chase in some games and win it, We chased it a second time, I think? But happy to chase, it was a really good wicket and really great intent shown by almost every batsman," Samson said after Rajasthan's big win.
Furthermore, Samson said Rajsthan should focus on one game at a time and the controllable even as they are inching closer to the play-offs spot.
