Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was "astonished" to see Punjab Kings drop Chris Gayle from their playing XI for Match 32 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Rajasthan Royals in Dubai.

Gayle, who turned 42 on Tuesday, is not among the 4 overseas players in PBKS playing XI, captain KL Rahul confirmed at the toss. The news came as a shocker for Gavaskar and Kevin Pietersen, who were on air when PBKS won the toss and elected to bowl first against Sanju Samson's RR.
