Paul Reubens, the US comic who became famous in the 1980s for playing eccentric man-child Pee-wee Herman, and later infamous for his arrest at an adult theater, has died aged 70. Reubens died Sunday after a six-year battle with cancer which he had not publicly disclosed, according to a statement on the actor's official social media accounts. "Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness," it said.
"Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit."
A Facebook post included a quotation posthumously attributed to Reubens.
