Annual car festival at Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Temple in Triplicane with colorful decorations and traditional rituals.
Thousands of devotees witnessed the annual car festival of the Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Temple in Triplicane on Saturday morning on the seventh day of the Chithirai Brahmotsavam.
The idol of Sri Parthasarathy Perumal accompanied by those of His consorts Sri Sridevi and Sri Bhoodevi went around the four mada streets seated in the tall colorfully decorated temple car amidst shouts of Narayana and Govinda and the chanting of the Nalayiradivyaprabhandam.
Devotees from other parts of the city too had gathered for the event that happened at one of the 108 Divya Desams of Perumal. The mada streets around the temple were decked with large kolams.
“It is belief that each deity is a king, which is why during temple Brahmotsavams the utsava idols are brought out on different alankarams and in different sevais like Surya Prabhai and Chandra Prabhai and vahanams (vehicles) like Yaanai, (elephant) and kudhirai (horse),” explained R. Raghunathan, a temple expert.
The next Brahmotsavam of the temple will be for Sri Narasimhar in the Tamil month of Aani.
