A portion of a basement of Supertech Ecovillage 1 in Greater Noida society caved in, leaving the safety of hundreds of apartment dwellers in jeopardy. After the part of the basement near the D tower caved in, there was panic among residents who were already worried about the strength of the building.
Although the incident happened a few days back, now the pillars have started sinking and beams supporting the structure have developed irreparable cracks. The residents, who have blamed the builder for the mishap, have complained to the building authorities, following which the management placed support jacks around the affected area.
Manish Kumar, a resident of society, said, “The problem of seepage and waterlogging in low lying and under construction areas in society is very common. Despite repeated requests, the builder did nothing to prevent the problem we are facing now. The road above the area has been closed for vehicular movement and depression is visible on the road due to structural damage."

Ranjana Suri Bhardwaj, another resident, claimed that the builder did a very poor job in the upkeep and maintenance of society.
“ The construction of a sewage treatment plant (STP) was going on in an open area below the basement. The area has been left unattended by the builder for a long time due to which waterlogging happens very often. The construction required some soil to be dug out and that led to the cave-in of a portion of the basement. We hope the authorities take strict action against the builder,” said Bhardwaj.
However, the project management team of the society claimed that they are doing everything possible from their end to fix the problem.
