Madurai: Parents should have free discussions with their girl children so that they know the confus

: Parents should have free discussions with their girl children so that they know the confusions in their mind and find them best solutions, said Deputy Inspector General of Police (Madurai) R. Ponni.

Addressing an awareness meeting on sexual abuses against girls held at a school in Nagari near Samayanallur on Saturday, Ms. Ponni said that the casual conversations between the children and parents had reduced a lot and this had led to the parents being unaware of what the children underwent in their absence.

She also detailed about the things that distract the attention of the girls and their impact on their life.

"Free discussion with children can help the parents to correct their mistakes," she said. Ms. Ponni also talked about the adverse impact of sexual abuses on the minds of the children.

The DIG spoke about various sexual abuses reported against children and the ways to prevent such crimes. She also touched about the laws against sexual abuses.

Talking about the importance of education to empower women, she said that children should be allowed go pursue their educational dream.

She also warned about child marriage and the penal provisions of Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
