Years before becoming Mumbai Police chief, Param Bir Singh was responsible for chasing down underworld gangsters and drug lords in Mumbai and Thane. Now, he is embroiled in a bitter fight with the state's former home minister.
Param Bir Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer, is in the limelight after making sensational allegations of corruption and extortion against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. On Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recorded his statement in which he once again accused Anil Deshmukh of asking police officers to collect Rs 100 crore per month for him through extortion. Param Bir Singh first levelled these allegations on March 20 in a letter addressed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Anil Deshmukh has rubbished these charges and threatened to file a defamation suit against him.More Related News
