AIADMK leader Panneerselvam slammed a Sri Lankan court order that asked Indian fishermen to pay Rs 1 crore each for release.
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader O Panneerselvam on Tuesday criticised a Sri Lankan court order that fixed Rs 1 crore as the bail amount to release arrested Indian fishermen.
A total of 12 fishermen from Tamil Nadu's Rameshwaram were detained by the Sri Lankan Navy recently for allegedly crossing international maritime border. On April 7, the Kilinochi Court in Sri Lanka gave an order stating that the fishermen can be released on bail if each of them pays Rs 1 crore as bail amount.

Condemning the court order, OPS said this was the height of injustice towards the poor Indian fishermen. In his statement, the AIADMK leader said that fishermen earn a meagre salary and risk attack of Sri Lankan Navy and go fishing due to their financial situation. To put these fishermen in a position like this is injustice, he said.
"If the fishermen are in a position to pay Rs 1 crore, they would not be fishing in the first place," he added.
OPS also urged DMK government in Tamil Nadu to take all necessary steps to bring back all the fishermen along with their boats.
