Doha, Qatar: The Palestinian national football team will face their Lebanese counterpart at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium at Al Sadd SC on Thursday as part of the joint qualifiers for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 and the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Canada, Mexico, and the USA.
Already possessing seven points, Palestine needs a single point from its match against Lebanon, which only possesses two points, to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history.
After showcasing their potential in AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 earlier this year by qualifying for the second round for the first time, and fairing well in the World Cup and Asian Cup qualifiers, the stakes are high for Palestine to make history this time round.
On the other hand, Lebanon struggled earlier in the qualifiers, where they only managed to get two points thanks to their draw with Palestine and Bangladesh respectively.
As a result, for Lebanon to qualify, it will have to defeat Palestine and Bangladesh, granted that Palestine loses against Australia.
