AIADMK leader accuses DMK of diverting murder case, calls for action against culprits and officials, AMMK leader demands justice.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday accused the DMK regime of seeking to divert the course of the case regarding the murder of K. Jagaber Ali, an anti-stone quarrying activist, at Thirumayam in Pudukottai district.
In a social media post, Mr. Palaniswami, who identified the deceased as the secretary of Thirumayam (South) panchayat union’s minorities wing, said the police had arrested a few persons, including a lorry driver, instead of catching the “real culprits”. That the murder had taken place after Ali complained to the Collector, the Assistant Director of Geology and Mining in the district, and the Tahsildar concerned, had created fear in people’s minds. The government had set a “bad precedent” of having “let down” the complainant, instead of taking on those who were responsible for the alleged violation of mining rules. The government should take action not only against those who were behind the murder of the activist, but also the officials who had delayed taking action on the complaint of the deceased, Mr. Palaniswami added.
Expressing concern over the killing of Ali, AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran called for stringent action against the guilty.
