Padma Shri awarded to Karnataka farmer, Mahalinga Naik, for transforming barren, sloping hill into fertile farm

A Karnataka farmer, Amai Mahalinga Naik, was awarded the Padma Shri for transforming a barren, sloping into a fertile farm by using the innovative Zero-Energy Micro-Irrigation system.
An innovative farmer from Karntatka’s Adyanadka village in Dakshina Kannada, Amai Mahalinga Naik, has been conferred with the Padha Shri award.
He was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, for transforming a barren, sloping hill into a fertile farm. He achieved this feat through the Innovative Zero-Energy Micro-Irrigation System.
Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat commended Naik in a tweet. He described Naik as a ‘water warrior’.

In his tweet, Shekhawat said, ““What a life, what an achievement,” the minister tweeted. “Karnataka's 'single man army' Amai Mahalinga Naik, who has been conferred with the Padma Shri Award.”
