
P.E.I. schools closed, Confederation Bridge shut down due to high winds

All schools in Prince Edward Island are closed Tuesday as strong winds continue to impact the region.
UPEI, Holland College and Collège de l'Île are also closed for the day. The Confederation Bridge is currently restricting all traffic.
Wind warnings issued by Environment Canada are in effect across the Island. Wind gusts are expected to reach nearly 90 km/h from the southwest, gradually weakening this afternoon.
"The high winds will also give reduced visibility in blowing snow over exposed areas. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches," the weather agency warns.
All French daycares have delayed their opening until 10:30 a.m., with a further announcement at 9:30 a.m.
Island Montessori Academy and Académie d'exploration Évangéline are closed today.
Classes at Study Abroad Canada are delayed until 10:30 a.m., with a further announcement by 9:30 a.m.
A number of health services across P.E.I. are delaying their openings this morning or cancelling in-person appointments due to the weather. Islanders are encouraged to visit the Health P.E.I. website for the latest updates.
T3 Transit said all rural transit routes are cancelled. City routes 1, 2, 3 and 23 are running on their regular schedules. All other city transit routes, including those serving Stratford and Cornwall, will begin service at noon.
All provincial civil service offices are opening late this morning, with operations delayed until 10:30 a.m. An update is expected by 9:30 a.m.

Island Waste Management Corporation has cancelled all garbage collections Island-wide. There will be no alternate collection day.
The City of Charlottetown's City Hall and administrative offices will delay their opening until 10:30 a.m. today, with a further announcement at 9:30 a.m.
The Charlottetown Airport's first flight of the day with service to Toronto has been cancelled.
