More than 350 vehicles, including bikes and cars, were gutted in a fire at a police impound lot on Sunday afternoon in South West Delhi. The incident occurred on the premises of Sagarpur Police Station.
No injuries or casualties have been reported as of yet.
Gaurav Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South West, said that a fire broke out in the recovered vehicle and goods impounded at the Sagarpur police station.
"When the officer on duty noticed that the vehicles parked on the ground were on fire, he immediately called the fire department. After several hours of effort, the fire was extinguished. However, by that time, 250 motorcycles and 100 cars had been destroyed,” said the DCP.
The majority of the vehicles which were gutted on Sunday were accidental properties. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team went to the scene and collected all of the samples in order to determine the cause of the fire, the senior police officer added.
