Over 300 teachers were appointed to various madrasas in Uttar Pradesh during Covid, when educational institutions remained shut. The Opposition has alleged mismanagement of madrasas by the state government.
Teachers were appointed to various madrasas in Uttar Pradesh even when all educational institutions remained shut during Covid. These appointments were approved by UP Madrasa Education Council.
Significantly, there are 558 madrasas in Uttar Pradesh which are aided. In these, the management committees have the right to appoint teachers and other employees. The rule is that the approval of the council has to be taken for the appointments.
But during Covid, a large number of appointments were made in madrasas in different districts. That too when madrasas, schools and colleges remained closed in the 2020-21 period.
About 100 appointments were made in Azamgarh division alone. More than 30 appointments were made in Prayagraj and more than 20 staff were appointed in Kanpur. It is said that a total of more than 300 appointments have been made during this period.
The Opposition has raised questions over the mismanagement of madrasas and the government's intention to provide better facilities. SP Spokesperson Nitendra Singh Yadav said that the government should investigate the matter and should provide better education for the students.
Speaking to India Today, UP Minority Minister Danish Ansari also admitted that recruitment has been done against the rules and action will be taken soon. He said the government is serious about the education system of madrasas and this entire matter is being investigated and strict action will be taken against those who are guilty.
"We have District Minority Welfare Officers everywhere. Besides that, there are registrars in the directorate and directors. We told everyone that our madrasa education should be run in a transparent and correct manner," he added.
