Outrage over Prophet remarks spill onto Delhi, UP, Kolkata streets | Top points
India Today
Hundreds took to the streets in Delhi, UP, West Bengal, Telangana, Jharkhand on Friday to protest against the remarks made by Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal on Prophet Muhammad.
Protests erupted in several states on Friday over remarks made by now suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma on Prophet Muhammad. Demonstrations were carried out in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal after Friday prayers.
The BJP tried to distance itself from the controversy, claiming that the remarks were “views of the fringe”. The party had also suspended Nupur Sharma and expelled Delhi BJP's media in-charge Naveen Kumar Jindal over their controversial comments.
Though Nupur Sharma later issued an apology, it has failed to appease the protestors, who are demanding the BJP leaders’ arrest.
