Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid a charge of failing to stop at the scene of an accident — resulting in death — after a pedestrian was killed on Walpole Island on Aug. 25.
It happened around 3 a.m., on Austin Road, between Creek Road and River Road.
The pedestrian was a 47-year-old from the First Nation.
"Investigation determined that a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle on the roadway, which then fled the scene," Lambton OPP said in a statement on Tuesday.
A 27-year-old from Wallaceburg has been arrested and charged — and will appear in a Sarnia court later this month.
The pedestrian, a 47-year-old from the Walpole Island First Nation, was pronounced dead at the scene.
