OnePlus is ditching UnifiedOS plans, will continue to offer OxygenOS on phones

OnePlus has confirmed that both OxygenOS and ColorOS will still be developed on the same codebase, but will remain separate.
OnePlus has confirmed that it is no longer planning to merge ColorOS and OxygenOS, which will likely offer a big relief to several users. The company’s CEO, Pete Lau, announced this in a blog post while talking about the future of OnePlus.
The brand has finally given some clarity on its partnership with Oppo. Back in September 2021, OnePlus announced that it would merge ColorOS and OxygenOS custom skins into a new “unified” operating system for both Oppo and OnePlus users. Now, it has been confirmed that both the custom UIs will still be developed on the same codebase, but will remain separate. This explains why the company is still offering OxygenOS as the company had announced that the unified operating system will arrive on the next flagship series in 2022, which didn’t happen.
“While OxygenOS and ColorOS will continue to be developed on the same codebase to allow for faster updates and better build quality OxygenOS and ColorOS will remain independent brand properties. This new course was taken in accordance with feedback from our Community we understand users of OxygenOS and ColorOS want each operating system to remain separate from each other with their own distinct properties,” Pete Lau said in a blog post.
Lau also confirmed the arrival of OxygenOS 13, but he didn’t reveal as to what the upcoming update will offer. He did mention that the new software update will “retain its unique visual design and a range of exclusive customization features.”
“With OxygenOS 13, we want to deliver an experience that long-time OnePlus users will be familiar with while ensuring it upholds hallmarks of OxygenOS, like a fast and smooth experience, burdenless design, and ease of use.”
In the same post, Lau also revealed that it received a good response for the OnePlus 10 Pro in China, so the company is now gearing up to launch its latest flagship smartphone in other countries, including India. While the official launch date is still unknown, Lau confirmed that the launch will take place in March this year.
Apart from this, the brand also confirmed that it will launch a smartphone in the second quarter of 2022 and this one will have support for Oppo’s latest 150W SuperVOOC technology. Currently, OnePlus is offering a 65W fast charger with most of the phones.
