Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam celebrates first anniversary, unveils busts of ideological icons, focuses on people-centric issues for 2026 elections.
On the occasion of the first year anniversary of the launch of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, party president Vijay on Sunday (February 2, 2025) unveiled the busts of ideological icons of the party — Social reformer Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj, Father of the Indian Constitution B.R. Ambedkar, and freedom fighters Rani Velu Nachiyar and Anjalai Ammal — at the party headquarters in Panaiyur on the outskirts of Chennai.
In a statement addressing his party cadres, Mr. Vijay said “We have completed one year and entered the second year today as a people’s movement. Since the launch of our party, we have been taking calculated steps in our political journey. During the maiden State-level conference, we announced our party’s ideological icons, action plans and our commitment to secular social justice principles. In the last one year, we have faced several challenges and moved on with honesty and without any fear by ensuring firm commitment to our principles.”
He said the party’s political activities focused on issues faced by people rather than targeting individuals, be it opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act or Chennai’s second airport project proposed at Parandur. He promised the party would continue to do so in the future. Further, he said the party is currently focusing on strengthening its organisational structure by appointing office bearers at the headquarters and district levels, to face the 2026 Assembly elections in the State. He urged the party cadres to reach out to people and carry out welfare measures across Tamil Nadu.
“We are joining hands with the people to show our strength in the 2026 Assembly elections and create a mega democratic event in Tamil Nadu along with power sharing. With great resonance, a political change happened in 1967 [when DMK came to power] and in 1977 [when AIADMK captured power], proving the power of the people. The hard work of many was the sole reason for such resounding political changes. We will create a new political path in the 2026 elections. I stand with you all and together we will stand with people on the ground for a massive political change,” Mr. Vijay added.
