One person is dead following a fire at a Saanich apartment building on Halloween night.
The fire broke out around 9:30 p.m. Sunday at a building in the 3200-block of Cook Street, according to Trevor Stubbings, assistant deputy chief at the Saanich Fire Department.
Three fire engines, 18 firefighters and a rescue truck responded to the scene and the fire was "largely contained" to a single unit on the second floor.
One person died in the fire, according to the fire department. It's currently undetermined if the victim lived in the suite where the fire was reported, according to Stubbings.
No other injuries were reported and other residents of the building have been allowed to return to their homes, says the assistant deputy chief.
Both the Saanich Fire Department and Saanich Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire. The investigation is in its early stages.
