This comes on a day the Tripura police claimed that they have registered at least five separate cases and charged over 70 for spreading fake news and instigating people on social media.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday sought an action taken report from the Tripura government within four weeks on complaints of political violence and violence against communities that are a religious minority in the state. 5 criminal cases has been registered against 71 persons who posted provocative posts on social media. Strict action shall be taken against those persons who are trying to create hatred in the society.

"Five criminal cases have been registered against 71 people who posted provocative posts on social media. Strict action shall be taken against those persons who are trying to create hatred in the society," the Tripura police tweeted.
