On Khashoggi murder anniversary, advocates want action from Biden

Advocates pledge to keep pushing for accountability for slain journalist after top US administration official met with MBS.
Washington, DC – Less than two years ago, then-US presidential candidate Joe Biden answered “yes” when asked whether he would punish senior Saudi leaders for the killing of Jamal Khashoggi.
But this week, just days before the three-year anniversary of the journalist’s murder on October 2, President Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) in the Gulf kingdom.
That, analysts say, is the latest example of Biden’s failure to follow through on his promise to seek accountability for the killing – and put human rights at the heart of United States foreign policy.
