Sachin Waze told an inquiry commission that he had paid money to ex-Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh's associates on the latter's instructions, retracting his previous statements made to the probe panel.
Dismissed Mumbai Police assistant inspector Sachin Waze, while appearing before the Justice Chandiwal Commission, submitted an affidavit in which he said that former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh instructed him to collect money from bars and restaurants in Mumbai.
The former police officer stated that he had handed over the collected money to Deshmukh and his associates.
Deshmukh is presently in judicial custody in the money laundering case registered against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged extortion of Rs 100 crore from bars and restaurants in Mumbai.
Deshmukh also faces an extortion and corruption case registered by the CBI. The Justice Chandiwal Commission has been set up to probe the allegations levelled by former Commissioner of Police Mumbai Param Bir Singh against Deshmukh in his letter addressed to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on March 20, 2021.
Waze mentioned in his affidavit that he had furnished the information to Singh and Singh had summarised the same in his letter written to CM Uddhav Thackeray.
In the affidavit, Waze has mentioned that since he was lodged in Taloja prison following arrest by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), he was denied medical facilities. Waze alleged that despite his bypass surgery, he was not allowed to go for physiotherapy, follow-up appointments with the surgeon, and also his existing dental ailments were not addressed.
He further mentions that various false cases were registered against Param Bir Singh, a few other police officials and ACP Sanjay Patil, who is also a victim of pressure tactics adopted by 'powerful persons'.
