Viele osteuropäische Länder waren in der Vergangenheit stark von Russland abhängig, um ihre Energieversorgung sicherzustellen. Doch schon vor dem Krieg in der Ukraine setzte mancherorts ein Umdenken ein. Das gilt allerdings nicht für alle Länder.
Deutschlands östlicher Nachbar gilt als das Kohleland Europas: Mehr als 70 Prozent seiner Energie bezieht Polen immer noch aus dem Rohstoff. Dabei wird die Kohle nicht immer in Polen selbst gefördert; 2020 etwa mussten 24 Prozent des Bedarfs importiert werden, ein erheblicher Teil kam aus Russland. Damit soll jetzt Schluss sein. In den kommenden Wochen schon wird der Import von Kohle aus Russland eingestellt, spätestens im Dezember kommt auch kein Öl mehr, genauso wie Gas. In der EU geht Polen voran.
Möglich ist das, weil das Land seit Jahren Projekte vorantreibt, um sich von russischen Energieträgern unabhängig zu machen. So wurde 2015 in Swinoujscie ein LNG-Terminal eröffnet. Noch dieses Jahr geht die Pipeline Baltic Pipe in Betrieb, die Polen mit norwegischem Gas versorgen wird.
