Despite life-saving efforts by an off-duty police officer, a 59-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries after being hit by a car downtown Sunday night.
Despite life-saving efforts by an off-duty police officer, a 59-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries after being hit by a car downtown Sunday night.
The collision involving a pedestrian and a black Honda Civic happened around 5:50 p.m. right across from the police station, in the eastbound lanes of Brady Street near Golden Grain Bakery and the Minto Street intersection, police said in a news release Monday morning.
"An off-duty police officer was the first person on scene and immediately began life-saving measures until City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services arrived. Paramedics transported the 59-year-old woman to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical professionals," Sudbury police said.
"Our deepest condolences go out to the woman’s family and friends. Her name will not be released out of respect for her family’s wishes."
An investigation is continuing and anyone with information about the crash or who was driving in the area and has dash cam footage is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171.
