Odisha: On way to arrest accused, police team sees its SUV seized by finance company

A team of Odisha police found itself in an unusual situation on Wednesday in Bhubaneswar. A finance company’s recovery agents seized the SUV they were travelling in to arrest an accused.
A team of Odisha police found themselves stranded after their SUV (sport utility vehicle) was intercepted and seized by a finance company. The incident took place in Odisha’s Balasore district on Wednesday.It was a private vehicle that was engaged by the Odisha police in Balasore district’s Sahadevkhunta police station for a monthly rental. The owner of the vehicle had reportedly taken a loan from the finance company and later defaulted on EMI (equated monthly instalment) payment.The finance company’s recovery agents came looking for the owner, who had not paid the EMIs for several months, despite repeated reminders. The owner of the vehicle is a resident of Bhubaneswar.On Wednesday, a police team from Balasore district’s Sahadevkhunta police station was in Bhubaneswar to arrest an accused in the Khandagiri area of the capital city. It was here that their vehicle was intercepted by the finance company’s recovery agents.Around 5 pm on Wednesday, the recovery agents stopped the SUV at Patrapada area near Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar. They forced the police team out, and seized the vehicle citing non-payment of the EMIs.The SUV was then handed over to the Khandagiri police station. Their vehicle seized and deposited at a police station, the Sahadevkhunta police team returned to Balasore in a separate vehicle.Sahadevkhunta police station in-charge Krushna Chandra Pallei confirmed the incident while speaking to India Today but refused to divulge more details saying his junior officer was dealing with the Khandagiri case.
