Odisha fisherman shot dead after entering restricted zone

A fisherman was shot dead and another sustained bullet injuries for allegedly trespassing into the Integrated Test Range’s (ITR’s) prohibited area.
A fisherman was shot dead and another sustained bullet injuries for allegedly trespassing into the Integrated Test Range’s (ITR’s) prohibited area in the deep sea near Chandipur off Odisha coast on Wednesday.
Both the fishermen were hit by bullets for trespassing into the ‘no entry zone’ of the highly sensitive defence area of ITR (Integrated Test Range), said sources.
The deceased has been identified as Kamal Lochan Majhi of Sartha Bindha village and the injured is identified as Padma Lochan Mallick. The bullet had hit Kamal Lochan on his chest.
Injured Padma Lochan Mallick, who belongs to Kasafal village, has been admitted to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital. His condition is said to be critical.
Reportedly, seven fishermen, including the deceased, had gone into the deep sea for fishing on board a local fishing boat, Jai Maa Laxmi. Several rounds were fired in the direction of the fishing boat. Bullets hit both of them while they were fishing in between the Jodakuti and Gada rivers.
