A fleet of cars, bikes and cash was seized from the possession of a senior police officer in Odisha after raids by the officials of Vigilance department.
Acting on a tip off, sleuths of the Vigilance department on Tuesday conducted raids at 11 locations simultaneously, including the residence of Additional SP of Police, Communication, Trinath Mishra on charges of amassing large amounts of assets beyond his known sources of income.
The raids continued till Wednesday and finally he was arrested on the allegation of accumulation of disproportionate assets through illegal means.
The Vigilance department officials found that Mishra had accumulated assets to the tune of several crores.
Trinath Mishra’s assets have been evaluated at Rs 9.5 crore, which includes four plots and seven expensive cars. The disproportionate assets (Rs 11.2 Crore) have been estimated at 500 per cent of his known sources of income, Vigilance SP Akshaya Mishra told India Today.
It was Mishra’s love for a luxurious fleet of vehicles, including high end cars such as BMW and Super Bikes estimated to be worth Rs 1.11 crore, with fancy registration plates with ‘0005’ -- that brought him under the Vigilance department’s radar.
After Trinath Mishra’s arrest, Director of Vigilance, Yashwant K Jethwa said, "A considerable amount of Vigilance work is based on two forms of tip-offs pre and post-bribery. Pre-bribery feedback helps us in laying traps and nabbing those who are demanding and accepting bribes. The other form of feedback is assisting us in targeting corrupt officials who have amassed ill-gotten wealth."
He added, "Concrete leads provided by whistleblowers and victims of corruption is helping Vigilance department officials in a big way to check graft."
