The head of the union that represents New York City police officers assailed local leaders Thursday for "holding back our police" moments after an officer was released from a hospital to a hero's welcome after being shot three times the night before.
"Crime is skyrocketing. Shootings have doubled since last year and have doubled since last month," he said outside Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn where officer Brian McGurran was briefly hospitalized after being shot by a suspected gang member with a lengthy criminal history Wednesday night. "Yes there's guns on our streets but the bigger problem is they're holding back out police," Lynch added. "If they're shooting New York City police officers, what chance does the general public have?"More Related News
