
Number of new Covid cases falls below 300 Saturday in Qatar

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Saturday reported 297 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 during the past 24 hours, and recorded 779 recoveries from the virus bringing the total number of cases recovered in Qatar to 351746. Of the new Covid cases, 249 were found among the community and 48 among travelers. The Ministry also announced the death of three patients aged 75, 83 and 89 years respectively who were having a history of chronic diseases and were receiving the necessary medical care. The MoPH reported that 6,303,572 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered since the start of the vaccination program, adding that 2787 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the past 24 hours. The ministry added that 1,212,354 Covid-19 booster vaccine doses have been administered to date. It explained that 87.9 percent of the total population are now fully vaccinated with two doses. In a statement, the MoPH noted that there is clear evidence of the protective effects of the vaccines and the majority of patients being admitted to ICU with Covid-19 are either unvaccinated or had their second dose more than 6 months ago and have not received a booster dose. It also noted that the latest evidence shows that the country has passed the peak of the third wave of the pandemic, as the number of daily new cases of the virus continues to decrease, noting that the support of the community in adhering to the government restrictions and Covid-19 precautions. It added that the high vaccination rate has played a significant role in reaching this stage and stabilize the number of new daily cases. The MoPH called for caution and continued adherence to restrictions and precautionary and preventive measures, and to contact 16000 helpline immediately if anyone suffering from Covid-19 symptoms, as early detection of the disease makes it easier to obtain appropriate treatment and increases the recovery chances.
