India Today
Nothing CEO, in a series of tweets, hinted towards an Android phone in works. This device could be powered by a Snapdragon chipset and run Android 12 out of the box.
.Carl Pei’s Nothing started its consumer tech journey with the Nothing Ear 1 TWS. Nothing as a company is quite new in the tech space but Carl has provided hints that the company is working on an Android phone already. Pei posted a series of tweets which received replies from official Twitter handles of Android and Snapdragon. Although the CEO didn’t explicitly mention the rumoured device, the tweets hint that the Nothing phone may soon become a reality.
Carl Pei tweeted that he is back on Android. This was followed by another tweet in which he praised Android 12 while also mentioning Android Senior Vice President Hiroshi Lockheimer. The official accounts of Android and Snapdragon replied to Carl’s tweets. The tweet by Android says “We've got a lot to catch up on Carl '' while Snapdragon replied with a picture pointing at the partnership between Android, Snapdragon and Nothing.
The initial tweet from Pei suggests that the rumoured Nothing phone may run Android 12 OS. If that is true, the phone may not be far away from launch. It is also likely that the Nothing phone will be powered by a Snapdragon chipset.
Nothing announced its partnership with Qualcomm last year. Also, Manu Sharma, Vice President and General Manager, Nothing India, in an exclusive conversation with India Today Tech said that many of their devices launching in 2022 will be powered by Qualcomm. These are clear indications that the first-ever Nothing phone will ship with a Snapdragon processor.
During the conversation with India Today Tech, Manu revealed that Nothing is working on five new products for 2022. These may include a smartphone, a power bank and a couple other lifestyle products.
At the moment, we do not have any information about the design or specs of the Nothing phone. However, hopes are high considering the brand is focused on reimagining the design of all the consumer tech products it comes up with. A glimpse of this was seen with its first ever product - the fun looking TWS earbuds. You can check out our review of the Nothing Ear 1 TWS here.
