Former Army Chief General (retd) Shankar Roy Chowdhury said on Thursday that the selection of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) is based on the government's decision rather than seniority.

The selection of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) is a matter not of seniority of a military officer, said former Indian Army chief General (retd) Shankar Roy Chowdhury while talking to India Today TV on Thursday.

The government is likely to announce the name of the CDS in the next few days. General Roy Chowdhury said the selection process for the CDS was more of a matter of government opinion rather than seniority.
