The feud between Amarinder Singh and Navjot Sidhu dates back to the 2017 election, when the former cricketer hoped to be made Deputy Chief Minister but was reportedly denied by Mr Singh
Not all issues between Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Navjot Sidhu, his long-time rival and the new chief of the Congress' Punjab unit, have been resolved, senior leader Harish Rawat told NDTV on Monday, adding that there is, however, a "desire for peace" ahead of next year's election. As the Congress' state in-charge, Mr Rawat led a three-member team tasked with containing the infighting triggered by the Amarinder-Sidhu feud. Today he told NDTV that the party needs Mr Sidhu's aggression and Mr Singh's experience if it wishes to retain power in the state. "I am not saying all issues have been resolved. We are a dynamic party. But the senior Punjab leadership knows that it needs to work together ahead of the 2022 polls," he said. Mr Rawat had words of praise for both leaders, congratulating the Chief Minister on his "magnanimity" and Navjot Sidhu for seeking the more experienced leader's blessings. "We were not sure if he would host the tea party. Captain (Mr Singh ) showed his magnanimity, took the higher moral ground, and Sidhu also reciprocated. I hope this goes on in the future too. Our aim is the 2022 Punjab polls," he added.More Related News
