A North Carolina judge has ruled that police body camera video from the aftermath of a fatal shooting by an off-duty sheriff's deputy on Saturday in Fayetteville can be released to the public.
Jason Walker, a 37-year-old Black man, was shot and killed by Cumberland County Sheriff's Deputy Lt. Jeffrey Hash, who told authorities he had jumped on his vehicle.
Hash's attorney, Parrish Daughtry, told CNN the shooting was self-defense, citing a North Carolina law that includes a stand-your-ground provision.

A remarkable scene is playing out in the US House of Representatives on Wednesday: In an effort to avoid votes on releasing files related to Jeffrey Epstein, Republicans are shutting it down early and heading out on a weekslong August recess. Nevermind that the Trump administration promised to release these files, and many Republicans want them to do so.
