Noida police shuts down meat shops amid Navratri, administration says ‘no such order issued’

Noida meat shopkeepers have alleged that the local police is shutting down meat shops amid the nine-day festivities of Navaratri. However, the administration has denied passing any such order.

All meat shops have been closed in Noida in view of the on-going nine-day festivities of Navaratri. The shops have been closed since the first day of Navaratri, September 26. The Noida police have allegedly asked the shopkeepers to close their shops during the festivities. However, no such government order has been issued by the district administration and police.

A meat shopkeeper, on the condition of anonymity, said that the local police have got the meat shops around the temple and the puja pandal closed. The police has instructed not to open the shop for nine days, he said. However, neither the District Magistrate nor the police has officially issued any such order to close the meat shops. The shopkeepers said that the local police have closed their shops without any orders.

A team of Aajtak spoke to Noida DM Suhas LY and Joint Police Commissioner Luv Kumar in this regard. Both the officers said that no such order has been issued from their side.

The senior police officials said neither any order of closing down meat shops by the Noida Police has been issued nor any policeman is getting the meat shops closed. “If the shopkeeper himself closes the shop, then the police cannot do anything in it,” said the senior officials.
