Noida Police has arrested two notorious cow slaughterers and meat smugglers after an armed encounter between the police and the accused led to the latter being injured with a bullet.
The two slaughterers have been identified as Haseen and Farzan and have been admitted to the hospital for first aid. Their third accomplice, Billal, was also arrested by the police in a subsequent search operation of the area.
The incident occurred at one of the police checkpoints in the Phase -3 area of the city where the smugglers arrived in a container truck. The officials at the check post signalled the vehicle to stop for inspection but instead, the occupants speeded up and rammed through the barriers in a bid to lose the police behind.
Pursuing the suspicious vehicle, the police cornered the container truck in the Garhi Chaukhandi area and shot at its wheel to stop the vehicle. This prompted the smugglers to open fire at the police, in counter to which firing was done from the other side as well, injuring both the accused.
Police have also recovered sharp slaughtering tools, two illegal pistols, some ammunition and a container truck which is suspected to have been used in transporting the animal and its meat. Considering the notoriety of the accused smugglers, police have also started a probe into other similar cases registered against them.
