Nobel Laureate Esther Duflo met Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy and reviewed various welfare schemes introduced by the government.
Nobel laureate Esther Duflo, the French-American economist, called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and held meetings with government officials.
During the meeting, CM Jagan Mohan Reddy explained to Esther's team the measures taken by the government in the areas of agriculture, education, health, housing, women empowerment and welfare of the poor.
Nobel laureate Duflo reviewed the state government's welfare initiatives to achieve sustainable economic progress.
She appreciated the chief minister for rolling out various welfare schemes that benefit the poor. She said that a majority of schemes are DBT, where the amount is credited directly to women's accounts, besides prioritising women in housing.
Esther Duflo is the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2019 along with husband Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Creamer. She is the Director and Co-founder of The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) and also a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
