Kolkata Police has denied claims that there was a stampede-like situation during singer KK's concert on May 31.
Kolkata Police on Friday refuted claims that there was a stampede-like situation during late singer KK's concert at Nazrul Mancha on May 31.
Playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, better known as KK, collapsed shortly after the concert and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. People who attended KK’s concert claimed that the auditorium was jam-packed and the heat was too much to bear.
Speaking to India Today, Vineet Goyal, Kolkata Police Commissioner, said, "There was no stampede-like situation and that’s what our officers deployed there have reported. At no point did the organisers report anything of that sort to us."

"KK arrived at 6:22 PM and started his performance at 7:05. At no point of time, he was mobbed. We had sufficient police arrangements before his arrival. I don’t think there was any kind of overcrowding. We have visual evidence to show that it was not that crowded. To the best of our knowledge, we have found out that the AC was fully functional," he added.
The police further claimed that measures are being taken to deal with such emergency medical situations.
"Medical ambulances should be kept on stand by, hospitals should be identified well in advance, we are putting a mechanism in place. We will also ask organisers to put up screens outside so that people can watch it from outside," he said.
