Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma backed the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), saying every Muslim woman wants it. "No Muslim woman wants her husband to bring home 3 other wives', he said.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, April 30, backed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), saying every Muslim woman wants it to be implemented.
"No Muslim woman wants her husband to bring home 3 other wives. Ask any Muslim woman. UCC is not my issue, it is an issue for all Muslim women," Sarma was quoted as saying by ANI.
The Bharatiya Janata Party leader who was in New Delhi, claimed that to give Muslim women justice UCC must be implemented. "If they are to be given justice, after the scrapping of Triple Talaq, UCC will have to be brought," he said.

The debate over the UCC was rekindled after Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said a panel will be set up to draft the Uniform Civil Code. While in UP, Muslim minister Danish Azad Ansari said chaupals will be set up to explain 'merits' of the Uniform Civil Code.
Meanwhile, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) called the attempts by state governments and the Centre to introduce a Uniform Civil Code in India “an unconstitutional and anti-minorities move”.
