No earthen pot or matki found at school where Dalit boy was thrashed: Rajasthan ADG
India Today
Speaking exclusively to India Today, the Rajasthan Additional Directorate General (Crime) said he did not find a common drinking pot at the school in Jalore.
A day after Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced Rs 20 lakh compensation to the family of the Dalit boy who was thrashed by an upper-caste teacher in Jalore, Additional Director General (Crime) Ravi Prakash was sent to Surana village to probe the homicide.
Amid the brouhaha over the minor's death, ADG Prakash, in an exclusive conversation with India Today Group, maintained that he did not find any matki or earthen pot in the school. However, he stated that there was a place on the premises with a provision for keeping earthen pots.
It may be noted that the Dalit boy succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident took place. Allegedly, the boy was thrashed by the 40-year-old teacher for consuming/drinking water from a common earthen pot in a private school in the Jalore district.
The teacher, identified as Chail Singh, was arrested and charged under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
"I did not find any matki or earthen pots at school. In my discussions with school teachers and students, everyone mentioned that there was no matki in the school and everyone drank water from the same water tank. However, there is a place in the school where there is a provision for keeping matki or earthen pot," Ravi Prakash, ADG, Crime, mentioned to India Today.
