Rahul Gandhi criticizes Kejriwal and Modi for false promises, inflation, and pollution, urging support for Congress in Delhi.
Addressing his first public event in Delhi ahead of the February 5 Assembly election, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday (January 14, 2025) trained his guns on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, blaming him for “rising corruption and pollution” in the national capital.
Speaking to supporters in Seelampur in north-east Delhi, which witnessed communal riots in February 2020 that left 53 people dead and over 700 injured, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha compared Mr. Kejriwal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused both of making “false promises” to the public.
“Do you remember how Delhi was when Kejriwal came to power? He said he will remove corruption. But what has actually happened? Pollution and inflation have kept increasing,” said the Congress leader at his ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ event.
He added, “Just like Modiji, he keeps making false promises one after the other. There is no difference between them at all.”
This was his first election event in the Capital since the 2024 Lok Sabha poll, which INDIA bloc partners AAP and the Congress fought together in a 4-3 seat-sharing arrangement and where Mr. Gandhi had campaigned for candidates from both parties.
However, AAP and the Congress are fighting the Assembly election separately.
In response to Mr. Gandhi’s comments, the AAP chief, in a post on X, said, “Today Rahul Gandhi came to Delhi. He abused me a lot. But I will not comment on his statements. His fight is to save the Congress. Mine is to save the country.”
