Nikki Haley addresses Civil War comment following mounting backlash: 'I should have said slavery right away'

2024 Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley responded to critics across the political aisle for her comment on the cause of the Civil War.
"The first thing I should have said was slavery," Haley said on "Cavuto Live" Saturday. "I completely agree with that. When you grow up in the South, slavery is a given. Like when you think of the Civil War, you know it was about slavery. That's never been in question." During a New Hampshire town hall on Wednesday, the former South Carolina governor did not initially say "slavery" as the cause of the Civil War when questioned by a voter.
